If you smell gas, you should immediately put out all smoking materials and any open flames. In addition, do not use any cell phones, landline telephones, appliances or lights as flames or sparks from these devices may trigger a fire or explosion. If you smell propane gas that you suspect may be leaking, you need to immediately leave the area and evacuate the area or building where you suspect that gas might be leaking. Once you've left the area, you should locate and shut off the main gas supply valve on your propane tank, if it is safe to do so.
Once you've exited the area and are a safe distance from the source of the gas smell, you should report the leak immediately from a neighbor's house or other nearby location by calling Marlen Gas immediately. If you can't reach your propane retailer, call 911 or your local fire department immediately. Above all, do not re-enter the building until your propane retailer or fire department has determined that it is ok to do so.
Finally, you should always have a trained and qualified service technician from your local propane retailer perform a complete propane system check and any of your propane appliances to be sure they remain completely leak free before you attempt to use any of them.
